Common terminology for optical transceivers
Common terminology for optical transceivers
bandwidth
The bandwidth of the optical transceiver (Bandwidth) refers to the actual working frequency range of the optical transceiver. The unit is usually Hz (Hz). Generally, the larger the range, the stronger the theoretical adaptability of the optical transceiver. For example, the video bandwidth of a video/audio optical transceiver is 2 Hz to 10 MHz, and the audio bandwidth is 40 Hz to 20 kHz, which embodies a strong dynamic range width.
Signal to noise ratio
Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is the ratio between the intensity of the maximum undistorted sound signal produced by the optical source and the noise intensity emitted at the same time, usually expressed in S/N, usually in decibels (dB). The higher the signal-to-noise ratio, the better the audio quality. The signal-to-noise ratio of the general audio optical transceiver should be above 60dB.
Bit error rate
The BER (Bit Error Ratio) is an indicator for measuring the accuracy of data transmission within a specified time. Bit error rate = error in transmission / total number of codes transmitted *100%. If there is a bit error, there is a bit error rate.
Signal level
The signal level refers to the power ratio of the output signal of the device and the input signal and then takes the logarithmic value, usually denoted by P, P = lgP2 / P1.
Signal impedance
Sighal Inpedance is the ratio of the voltage to current of the input signal. The unit is usually Ω (ohms). Since the unit is ohm, it is also applicable to Ohm's law, that is, at the same voltage, the higher the impedance, the less current will flow, and the lower the impedance, the more current will flow.
Optical power
Optical power refers to the work done by light in unit time. Optical power units are usually expressed in milliwatts (mw) and decibels (db). The relationship between the two is: 1mw = 0db. The decibels less than 1mw are negative.
The conversion formula is P(dB)=10lgP(mW)
ATM
ATM is an abbreviation for Asynchronous Transfer Mode. A cell-based packet switching and multiplexing technique that is a universal connection-oriented transport model designed for multiple services. It is suitable for both local area networks and wide area networks. It has high-speed data rates and supports communication for many types such as voice, data, fax, live video, CD quality audio and images.
