1. High processing safety and machine toolability

For efficient overall grinding of 2-, 3- or 4-cylinder crankshafts, the German manufacturer of grinding machines, Erwin Jungger Machine Manufacturing GmbH, has developed a cost-effective JUCENTER 6L grinding machine. On one machine, the entire main journal can be ground by two clamping and using one set of grinding wheels, while the radially different connecting rod journals are machined by means of two other grinding spindles.

Instead of a separate series of conventional cylindrical grinding and follow-up grinding machines, the new JUCENTER 6L combines two separate clamping processes onto one machine, saving machine floor space and cost.

As shown in Figures 1 and 2, two fully independent grinding stations are placed on a common machine bed. The first workpiece clamping is performed on the first station on the left. With the CBN grinding wheel set, the grinding spindle neck is moved in the direction of the X-axis; all the spindle necks are simultaneously ground using the multi-wheel cutting method and with the on-line measuring fit.

While working at the first station, the second station on the right performs the second workpiece clamping, and simultaneously grinds all the connecting rod journals of different radial directions through the two grinding spindle units installed in sequence.

In order to grind two adjacent connecting rod journals, CBN grinding wheels are mounted on two compactly constructed wheel frames, one on the left side of the wheel frame and one on the right side of the wheel frame. The two grinding wheel holders for high-precision follow-up grinding are fed together in the Z direction, grinding all the radially intersecting connecting rod journals in pairs to achieve the final quality requirements.

2. By processing the radially intersecting connecting rod journals in pairs, the machining time can be reduced by half.

Compared with the traditional connecting rod grinding machine, it has to grind the four single connecting rod journals sequentially; the JUCENTER 6L paired grinding connecting rod journals cut the machining time by half, greatly reducing the overall machine required for the project. Quantity.

3. Complete grinding spindle neck

This new machine concept also has advantages in external machining. The complete set of plunge grinding is a one-time cut-in, which completes the machining of the outer circumference of the main spindle of all workpieces. The duplex position on the JUCENTER 6L machine has the same machining cycle time, and the second station that grinds the connecting rod journal determines the beat. The grinding parameters of the cut-in grinding are thus adjusted at the first station, so no waiting time is generated.

This is far from all. In addition to the sequential machining of two separate machines that have been used in the past, installing a built-in loading and unloading robot (gantry) on the JUCENTER 6L machine also minimizes the auxiliary time. The blank on the storage rack on the left side of the machine tool is transferred to the first station by the jaws of the robot, and the crankshaft that has been ground by the spindle neck has been replaced. The robot then sends the workpiece to be completed to the second station, replacing the crankshaft that has completed the overall grinding. The finished workpiece from the second station is then sent to the storage rack on the right side of the machine by the loading and unloading robot and arranged in order.
