Sulfide application
Application in analytical chemistry
The hydrogen sulphide system is a traditional and extensive method for analyzing cations. The common cations are divided into five groups based on the significant difference in solubility of each ionic sulphide. Since H2S gas is highly toxic and inconvenient to store, an aqueous solution of thioacetamide (CH3CSNH2, TAA) is generally used as a precipitating agent.
Hydrolysis of TAA in acidic solution produces H2S, which can replace H2S: CH3CSNH2 + H + 2H2O ⇌ CH3COOH + NH4 + H2S↑ Hydrolyzed in ammonia solution to form HS, which can replace (NH4)2S: CH3CSNH2 + 2NH3 ⇌ CH3-C(- NH2)=NH + NH4 + HS is hydrolyzed in an alkaline solution to form S, which can replace Na2S: CH3CSNH2 + 3OH ⇌ CH3COO + NH3 + H2O + S Sulfide. Other applications include:
Molybdenum disulfide is a catalyst in organic synthesis. Since sulfur-containing organic compounds such as thiophene poison the common hydrogenation catalyst, molybdenum disulfide can be used to catalyze the hydrogenation reaction of sulfur-containing organic substances. Cadmium sulfide can be used to make photovoltaic cells. Lead sulfide is used to make infrared sensors. Calcium polysulfide, bismuth polysulfide and ammonium polysulfide are fungicides and insecticides. Carbon disulfide is industrially used as a solvent. In addition, carbon disulfide is also used to produce carbon tetrachloride, and in organic chemistry, carbon disulfide is used to insert a -C(=S)-S- group. Zinc sulphide and cadmium sulfide are used to make phosphors, and high purity cadmium sulfide is a good semiconductor. Tetraphosphorus trisulfide is used to make matches and fireworks. Tetraphosphorus tetrasulfide is used in the manufacture of insecticides, lubricating oil additives and flotation agents. Sodium sulfide is widely used in the manufacture of sulphur dyes, the production of organic drugs and pulp, and the like. Calcium sulfide and barium sulfide are used to make luminescent paints.
