Oxford PV intends to commercialize perovskite series films for crystalline silicon cells

The British film company, Oxford Photovoltaics, said it plans to commercialize perovskite-based in-line films for conventional crystalline silicon solar cells before it plans to commercialize its photovoltaic integrated building products in 2017.

In the keynote speech at the EU PVSEC conference last year, Professor Martin Green, a leading solar scientist at the University of New South Wales, and the director of the National Energy Administration of Australia emphasized that remarkable improvements have been made in the efficiency of perovskite materials in such a short period of time.

Chris Case, chief technology officer of Oxford PV, said: "In the two years of research and development, we have increased the efficiency of a single solar cell from 5% to more than 17% - because we try new things, this As one data continues to increase, we believe that this material can achieve a high conversion efficiency of 20% in a relatively short period of time. Ultimately, it will promote the performance of solar panels to a new level. With the progress of our partners, we expect to see prototype panels in 2015."

Case, who entered the Oxford PV to commercialize perovskite products, echoed Professor Green's EU PVSEC speech. In the speech, the perovskite would be best able to find a mainstream application as a series layer of conventional crystalline silicon solar cells.

Kevin Arthur, co-founder and CEO of Oxford PV, said: "Perovskites have the potential to change the solar industry. Simply put, this material delivers very high performance at low cost. As a series layer, Perovskite can have a significant impact on the efficiency of 'turbocharged' current mainstream crystalline silicon products. Given the potential of this material for large-scale solar applications in the long run, we are really just beginning to touch the surface.”

The company is expected to commercialize a perovskite cascade in a licensing model.

Oxford PV claims that the perovskite film layer will increase the conversion efficiency of conventional silicon solar cells by 20% - equivalent to an increase of 3% to 5% in absolute conversion efficiency.
