Graceheimer produces new high performance plastic syringes in Germany

Gerresheimer AG, a pharmaceutical and health care specialist in Düsseldorf, Germany, has started producing new Gx RTF ClearJect syringes. The high performance plastic COP (cycloolefin polymer) utilized can be used in pharmaceutical products that require particularly complex packaging.

The new Gx RTF ClearJect syringe, 1 ml long with a sleeve, is the first type of plastic syringe developed and produced by Gerresheimer itself. Gerresheimer brings together the advantages of its production of glass in Binder and the development and industrialization of new syringes at the Vaxdorf Technical Competence Center (TCC) in Germany.

The production facilities are planned and built by the automation team of the Technical Competence Center; the expertise in quality control and quality guidelines for primary packaging stems from Binder's expertise in the manufacture of glass and can be adapted to the specific requirements of plastics production. Production is carried out according to the special high quality requirements of the primary packaging materials for pharmaceuticals corresponding to GMP.
The new production equipment covers the entire processing chain from injection molding to finished RTF packaging. For quality control, a series of cameras were installed at each station to check all relevant geometric parameters and appearance defects for each product.
COP for materials that are harmful or toxic
Drugs have strict requirements for their own packaging. In particular, bioactively produced active agents cannot interact with the packaging, which may adversely affect the patient. According to the manufacturer's particularly weak interaction force with the GXRTF syringe and the package, the material COP has high pH tolerance and does not release metal ions into the drug solution, so it does not cause pH shift during storage. COP is particularly resistant to breakage, making it suitable for packaging hazardous or toxic substances.
The syringe was manufactured by injection molding in an 8x hot runner mold. At the same time, the sleeves are also injection molded together and do not need to be bonded backwards. Therefore, GXRTF avoids tungsten and slag in the syringe. The precise geometry of the injection molded portion reduces the dead volume in the syringe, thereby reducing the residue of expensive drugs in the syringe. Equally appealing is the security of the end consumer.
The syringe utilizes precisely controlled, high viscosity, low particle silicide to provide a comprehensive syringe system that is assembled with a plunger rod, plunger plug, finger flange and closure system. A cost-effective, complete solution is achieved through the use of commercially available standard ingredients.

Duplex Stainless Steel Overview
Duplex Stainless Steels, also referred to as austenitic-ferritic stainless steels, are a family of grades with about equal proportions of ferrite and austenite. These steels have a duplex microstructure which contributes to their high strength and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Due to their high content of chromium, nitrogen and molybdenum, duplex steels offer good resistance to local and uniform corrosion. Duplex stainless steels have good weldability.
Today, modern duplex stainless steels can be divided into three groups:

Of the duplex grades, duplex 2205 is the most widely used. However, the super duplex steels like Zeron® 100 and LDX2507 are excellent for servicing severe corrosive environments, such as offshore and marine applications. Lean duplex 2101 is available as an economic alternative to 300 series stainless steels.
