Beijing Agricultural College recently bought 50 14-month-old Angus cows from Australia. This summer and fall, some of them will become the "surrogate cows" of the second generation of genetically modified cloned beef cattle. The first generation of genetically modified cloned beef cattle, "Meng Meng" and "Niu Niu," are now 18 months old and have grown to 1000. Big bull.

The author learned that "Meng Meng" and "Niu Niu" were born in July and August 2012. As a national special project for genetically modified high-quality, efficient genetically modified beef cattle breeding team, the scientists of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences Beijing Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and Beijing Agricultural College aim to: Develop a Chinese-made, uniform distribution of marble texture fat in muscle Senior beef cattle, so that people can eat domestically produced "snowflake beef." For this reason, the team spent 3 years, had done experiments on more than 400 cattle. Finally, the team transferred the fatty acid-binding protein gene (A-FABP) into the fetal fibroblasts of the Chinese beef cattle Qinchuan, and then used somatic cell cloning to inject the A-FABP-containing fetal fibroblasts. After being matured into the enucleated egg, it will develop into a reconstructed embryo in vitro. Finally, the embryo will be transplanted into the cow uterus that develops in the same period. Finally, the calves containing A-FABP are produced, ie, "Meng Meng" and "Niu Niu".
Next, the team will start breeding the second generation of genetically modified cloned beef cattle this year, in the same way as the first generation, except that "surrogate cows" were replaced with Angus cattle. According to Qi Xiaolong, this is because Angus cattle is a mature breed of cattle, with a robust body and low yield, which is very suitable for the burden of surrogacy. Because the "Sprouts" and the "Niu Niu" are cows, the second generation of these Angus surrogates will all be genetically modified cloned bulls. Finally, let the transgenic clones carrying the A-FABP gene co-bred the next generation to see if their offspring carry the A-FABP gene.
